Do you want to be the coolest parent ever? Looking for a fun date night or girls night out? Look no further than Meow Wolf, Santa Fe's newest amusement park for the senses. You won't find roller coasters or carnival rides here, but you will find an insanely amazing art installation that takes you on a crazy adventure. Once inside you will totally forget you are in a former bowling alley in Santa Fe.
Since it's opening in March 2016, Meow Wolf has taken not only Santa Fe and New Mexico by storm, it is getting buzz throughout the country. Meow Wolf is an arts production company that creates immersive, multimedia experiences that transport audiences of all ages into fantastic realms of storytelling. Meow Wolf says it is a combination of jungle gym, haunted house, children’s museum, and immersive art exhibit. I think they nailed it.
Meow Wolf is like a film that has just come out. You hear a lot about it, don't want to know the whole plot, and want to see it for yourself. No spoilers here.
We had my teenage niece in town from DC and she had heard about Meow Wolf and couldn't wait to go. We visited on a weekday in summer. It was bustling but not as crazy busy as I hear weekends are. My tween/teen crew loved this place. I did too. We spent about three hours exploring a ton of nooks and crannies that is Meow Wolf. The amazing thing is that I am most certain we did not see everything. Meow Wolf begs to be visited again and again, and more so since they change various art installations periodically.
The kids had a blast exploring together and we eventually all found each other again and had more fun showing each other places we discovered. Ordinary looking structures like a fireplace or refrigerator will reveal unexpected paths to different areas, so leave no medicine cabinet or bus seat unexplored, and don't forget to look up, under, and behind you.
