Camel Rock Monument
Camel Rock is a beautiful natural sandstone formation located in Tesuque, a few minutes north of Santa Fe. The camel shape has been carved out due to wind and rain erosion.
I cannot count the number of times we have passed this roadside attraction on US84/285. It is a family tradition to always proclaim we are passing by the camel and point it out. Heads, bobbing in the back of the car, look up, smile, and then go back to their electronic world. When the mood strikes, someone snaps a photo.
While that is usually sufficient, we do like to pull over and have a more official look at the camel when we have guests along who have never seen Camel Rock. Access is easy from the highway and there is a parking area. There is a paved path that will take you right up to a chain link fence in front of the rock. Great photo op and who can resist posing like the Bangles "Walk like an Egyptian." This is a fun quick stop along the highway.
